Free agent guard and former NBA champion Kyle Lowry is officially returning to the Sixers on a one-year deal, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The exact amount of the one-year deal has not yet been made public. This new deal indicates that Lowry will indeed be playing his 20th season in the NBA, as previous reports indicated that the NBA veteran was mulling a potential career shift over to broadcasting.

Lowry’s Potential Impact

The six-time All-Star is coming off an injury-plagued season that saw Lowry post career lows in points, assists, and rebounds. While certainly at the tail end of his career, the 38-year-old can still provide some important veteran leadership for a Sixers squad coming off a disappointing season. The team is certainly hoping that Lowry can provide some mentorship for No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe.

Final Thoughts

With this deal now officially in the books, it seems the Sixers believe that Lowry still has some gas left in the tank to potentially help them rebound next season. Whether or not Lowry can stay healthy and produce at a level that makes Philly competitive remains to be seen, but the team retained some much-needed depth at the point guard position for another year at the very least.
