Former NBA champion with Chicago Bulls reveals what the club should do about Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey was moved to the Chicago Bulls last season, marking the end of his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

His first year with the Bulls was also the last of his contract with OKC, which wrapped up after the 2024-25 season.

Giddey hit free agency as one of the more notable names this offseason, but he still hasn’t agreed to a new deal with Chicago.

The main holdup is that the guard’s camp is reportedly asking for $30 million a year, a number Chicago hasn’t shown much interest in matching.

One way to break the deadlock between Giddey and the Bulls would be to move him in a trade. There will be interest if Chicago does decide to go down that path, with the Australian star coming off averages of 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists last season.

The Golden State Warriors have been mentioned as a possible destination, and any team would find value in that kind of nightly production.

Even so, former Bulls player Stacey King doesn’t think the club should give up on Giddey after just one year.

“I’m vetoing that,” King said on the ‘Gimme The Hot Sauce’ podcast.

“Sending Giddey anywhere. For a kid that young, that has such a high upside, he’s going to be a very good player in this league, whether he’s playing for the Bulls or anywhere.

“You don’t want to be in that ‘regret mode’, like we gave up this guy over a couple of million dollars here and there.”

Giddey’s frustration with his contract situation is becoming increasingly clear, and it’s hard to blame him. The longer the Bulls delay extension talks, the more it impacts his standing within the organisation.

King believes Giddey deserves more faith from Chicago, especially given how regularly he flirts with triple-doubles. At just 22, that consistency shouldn’t be overlooked.

“At the end of the day, this guy’s a walking triple-double. There aren’t too many guys in this league that you can say that, every single night he’s going to be floating around a triple-double.

“We gotta have some faith in this guy,” King stated with confidence.
