Kevin Durant has been linked to a potential trade to the San Antonio Spurs this summer, and most analysts and fans believe it’s only a matter of time before the 15-time NBA All-Star moves to Texas.

However, former San Antonio Spurs executive Kirk Goldsberry believes that a deal may not happen anytime soon because of the team’s reluctance to pull the trigger.

“I know our friends in San Antonio think the price is too high,” Goldsberry said on The Zach Lowe Show. “And in the original discussions including the number two pick and/or Stephon Castle are not going very well on the Spurs end of the telephone, I can tell you that.”

“Everybody loves Kevin Durant, even though he’s 36 soon to be 37,” he continued. “But the Phoenix Suns, my understanding is they’re asking for a little too much. I had one Eastern Conference Executive say the name is better than the game.”

San Antonio Spurs: Anonymous scout doubles down on the team’s hesitation to trade for Kevin Durant

One anonymous NBA scout believes the San Antonio Spurs to “stay far, far away” from Kevin Durant this offseason because he doesn’t fit into the team’s current timeline, with Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle as their cornerstones.

“Look, if he’s 27, it’s a no-brainer. But he’s not,” the scout explained via Hoops Wire. “He won’t put San Antonio over the top. They need to give the keys to their young guys and let them go. Durant will score a lot, but the ball will be out of the hands of their future.”

“So here’s some free advice for San Antonio: Stay the course. Stay away from the 35-and-over crowd. Those guys are just numbers guys now. Unless they are willing to take the role of a third option — and most aren’t — then stay away. You won’t go anywhere special. Stay far, far away from Kevin Durant.”
