Former Tennessee Vols basketball star Grant Williams spent the first four years of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics before getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks and then the Charlotte Hornets.
Williams commented this week on the Celtics' struggles in the NBA playoffs against the New York Knicks, which led to some fans speculating that the former Vol wishes he was back in Boston (instead of with the bottom feeder Hornets).
"Not even with them anymore, but this [Celtics] discourse is wild," tweeted Williams. "Everyone has a right to an opinion but [Jayson Tatum] and [Jaylen Brown] are superstars. They are able [to] have bad games, but we’ve all witnessed them both takeover (games). Don’t let recent events cloud your eyes from what they’ve done and accomplished."
Williams quickly replied to a fan who suggested that he wants to return to Boston by tweeting, "I'm a proud Hornet".
Williams is from Charlotte, so it's not a surprise to hear that he's happy with the Hornets, despite the fact that the franchise hasn't experienced much success over the last several years.
Maybe that will change in the not-too-distant future, though. Charlotte is hoping to land the No. 1 overall selection in the NBA draft lottery next week.
