The Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo are off to a good start in the league. They have opened the season with a 7-5 record. Antetokounmpo has averaged 33.4 points (first in the league), 11.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists so far.
Antetokounmpo has also remained active outside the NBA this year. He suited up for Greece at EuroBasket, leading his team to a bronze medal. But Thursday's announcement from him was a little unique.
He is going to join Doodle for Google 2025 as a judge. "Doodle for Google is an art contest for students in the US that they can reimagine the Google logo. And this year's theme is 'My Superpower Is ...,'" he announced on Instagram.
"The winners of the contest will win scholarship and technology for their schools and their drawings will be on Google. I think it's very important for kids to express themselves. And most important, to feel powerful," he continued.
"Submissions for Doodle for Google are now open. I cannot wait to see how students express their superpower and show it to the world," Antetokounmpo added.
Pairing an NBA star with a long-running, highly visible school-art contest can increase participation and broaden reach beyond typical audiences. Antetokounmpo partnered with Google back in 2021, courtesy of their partnership with the league.
He is not the sole partner, however. Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is also partnered with the brand and recently teased an upcoming announcement.
Now, instead of one, five finalists each earn a $10,000 college scholarship, a Chromebook and a feature on Google.com. Judges and national voting pick one national winner who receives a $45,000 scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school. The contest moves to fall so schools can participate as the year begins.
Antetokounmpo is the perfect fit for the job because of his personality and his work through the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation and Antetokounmpo Academy to empower youth.
