Patrick Beverley has come under fire from multiple players after his comments on Trae Young’s leadership went viral. Now, 3x NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is also joining the bandwagon of athletes calling Beverley out.
“What Patrick was talking about, again, is no different than the media. You ain’t in that door, don’t talk like you know what’s going on in the door. And that’s what Trae Young was basically saying.” Arenas said.
Beverley was known for his defensive grit and physical playing style, but he never made it to the All-Star game. He did make it to the NBA All-Defensive first team once in his career.
“Let the All Stars talk about this. And that’s one thing that I always said with the All-Star game, like, ‘Hey, y’all are doing all these changes, are y’all asking the All-Stars what they wanna do?’ They’re the ones that want to be there ot don’t want to be there. Have you asked them what would make y’all play harder?” Arenas added.
According to the former Washington Wizards point guard, someone who has not played in the All-Star game is not considered in the upper echelon of the NBA. And thus, non-All-Stars should stay away from conversations around that level.
“If you ain’t made no All-Star game and you don’t know nothing about the All-Star, don’t talk All-Star talk. And Pat Bev kind of told on himself, he said, ‘I had to tell a couple of players, like, hey, don’t go too hard in the All-Star game, we got 36 more games left! We're trying to make that playoff!’ Exactly, that’s what they are all [already] thinking,” the former Wizards star concluded.
The comments from the former Timberwolves guard have not been received too well. NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who has also beefed with Beverley before, called him out on social media. Young himself put out a video on YouTube clarifying his stance on the matter and letting Beverley know what he thinks of him in the process.
The Clippers player reacted with a video of his own that is now being broken down by the NBA world. The latest athlete-turned-podcaster, who is making waves, Jeff Teague, commented on the situation.
In his response to Young, Beverley points to the Atlanta Hawks’ star’s social media activity, which, according to the former Clippers player, does not show him practicing at the Hawks’ facility, and he’s always in some other gym with other NBA stars.
Teague responded to these accusations from Young’s side, having shared the locker room with the young superstar.
“Trae does his video, but it's just like content for his fans. We all know what he really does, because when we were there, to see a dude working out at 12:00 at night, knowing he was party vibes.” Teague revealed.
Here, he’s talking about how big a star Young is in Atlanta and how the party scene in that city wholeheartedly accepts him. But that doesn’t stop him from putting in the work.
“He got a whole weekend dedicated to him, got the clubs rolling. But before he hit anything, he made sure he hit the gym at 12.” Teague added.
Clearly, Beverley's comments have cornered him because seemingly no one has come out in his support or sided with the former Timberwolves guard.
