Jonathan Kuminga has earned praise for his early-season performances.

Statistically, he averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists through the first three games, exceeding his previous season production.

While the sample size remains limited, Jonathan Kuminga has demonstrated development across multiple areas.

Kuminga shows improvement in ball-handling and three-point shooting at 50%, while Stephen Curry praised his defense against Luka Doncic.

Bob Fitzgerald credits Kuminga’s maturity shift from scoring focus to winning impact with passing

Golden State Warriors announcer Bob Fitzgerald particularly noticed Kuminga’s improved passing, a dimension rarely displayed during previous campaigns.

His 4.0 assists per game significantly exceeds his typical two assists per game, suggesting evolution in his understanding of team basketball.

For Fitzgerald, this represents Kuminga moving beyond the young player desperate to prove himself through scoring alone.

“Young guys get in the league and ‘I want to score, score, score, and that’s how I’m going to be famous’,” Fitzgerald explained.

“And then you realize, how can I impact winning? Scoring is important, sure, but rebounding and passing and defending and scoring is how you stay on the floor and how you impact winning.”

“And I just think Jonathan’s passing has been remarkable. It is better than it has ever been, ever, ever, ever, ever, in his career,” he added.

Jonathan Kuminga’s improved decision-making earns consistent starting role

Head coach Steve Kerr mentioned during preseason that Kuminga improved his playmaking capabilities.

Overall, Kuminga’s game appears more mature through three games, with better decision-making increasing his collective value.

This explains why he has earned starting positions in all three games, as Draymond Green also believes in his young teammate’s development.

His improved court vision and willingness to facilitate rather than force offense demonstrates the maturity the Warriors hoped to see.

And Kuminga might avoid getting traded if he continues to keep this consistency.
