The Golden State Warriors are making a potential Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade to the Sacramento Kings even harder.

The Golden State Warriors are embroiled in quite a difficult situation with Jonathan Kuminga right now. The young star’s future is quite uncertain.

Kuminga wants to pursue his All-Star ambitions elsewhere. However, no other team has made an effort to sign him in free agency.

Currently, NBA insiders expect the Warriors and Kuminga to continue their partnership, as the team will look to re-sign him before working on a trade ahead of the deadline next February.

One team that has an interest in Kuminga is the Sacramento Kings. However, the Warriors initially refused to trade Kuminga to the Kings.

But as Kuminga’s $30 million salary demand becomes too much for the Warriors, they may reconsider. Even if that happens, Golden State has no interest in one Kings player on the trade block.

Golden State Warriors say no to DeMar DeRozan and Devin Carter

Sam Amick of The Athletic appeared on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast recently. When discussing the future of Jonathan Kuminga, Amick dropped an interesting scoop.

It appears the Warriors don’t want either DeMar DeRozan or Devin Carter in a sign-and-trade package for Jonathan Kuminga.

On top of that, the Kings, much like the Warriors, don’t intend to pay Jonathan Kuminga more than $20 million per season, like he wants.

“My understanding is the Warriors weren’t interested in Carter or DeRozan. As of a couple of weeks ago, the Kings weren’t willing to pay Kuminga into the $20 million range (Average Annual Value).”

The Kings reportedly have an agreement with DeRozan to trade him should they land Kuminga. But that deal looks even more complicated, especially given the young star’s salary demands.

Jonathan Kuminga may have to settle for less money

With the way both the Warriors and the Kings are moving, Jonathan Kuminga might not earn the big payday he was hoping for.

While Kuminga is open to playing for the Kings, it is clear he won’t make the $30 million salary he wants to with them.

As things stand, Kuminga has gotten zero offers from any team in free agency.

The Warriors hold all the cards in their hands, as they have the right to match any offer Kuminga gets due to his restricted free agency.

But the longer they wait, the more likely it is another team might swoop in and sign him on a better deal. The Warriors should do their best to re-sign and deal Kuminga to avoid losing him for nothing.
