The Golden State Warriors witnessed that having Stephen Curry , Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green isn’t enough to win anymore. One aspect behind that reasoning is because of the age of their star trio. The Warriors’ Big 3 are all at least 35 years old and above. Although they’re still elite players, they can’t produce the same way as they used to.

The Warriors have realized they need to address the supporting cast around Curry, Butler and Green for them to contend.

After the team’s second-round playoff elimination against the Minnesota Timberwolves, they’re gradually considering adding specific players. This is to ensure that they’re maximizing the championship window that the three stars have left.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that the Warriors are reportedly going to bolster the roster around their stars. This coming offseason, Golden State will be aggressive in pursuing what they need.

“The Warriors will be incredibly aggressive in the marketplace to go find help. To continue to retool around their big three of Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler,” Charania said. “I’m told their priority is finding a playmaking wing, defender, or a center to add to this group.”

Starting with the center position, the Warriors were exploited in the postseason for sticking to their small-ball lineup. Even star center Rudy Gobert, who’s not known for his offense, took advantage of Golden State’s lack of size.

The Golden State Warriors have always stuck to playing a smaller lineup under head coach Steve Kerr. However, the age of their main core has affected their ability to compete against teams with a deeper and bigger frontcourt.

The Golden State Warriors look to sign a veteran center this summer

The Golden State Warriors have been linked to veteran big man Brook Lopez. The one-time All-Star is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Lopez might be on the older side, but he could still be a strong contributor for the Warriors, given his size and ability to stretch the defense.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks suggests the Warriors should keep an eye out for Lopez and possibly make a move.

“I think the one name to keep an eye on regarding that center position is Brook Lopez,” Marks said on Wednesday, via ESPN. “Stanford grad, makes his home in Fresno. What is the number on a Brook Lopez-type contract if you can get him on a one-year flyer here to patch up that center position?”

Lopez is ideal for the Warriors. He solves their interior defense while still providing spacing on the offensive end. One thing to note, however, is his age. Next season, the big man will be 37, which will push Golden State to the older side of the league.
