Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry Hasn’t Ruled Out Playing Into His 40s

During an interview with Mark Medina of EssentiallySports, NBA legend Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors didn’t rule out playing into his 40s.

Curry is 37 years old. He turns 38 on March 14, 2026.

“All I’ll say is that I just want the option and if I’m at a legitimate ability to be able to play,” Curry said. “I don’t know if it’ll make sense or if I would want to, whatever the case is. But if I can make the decision and the decision is not made for me, that’s a big, big point.”

Curry will make $59.6 million this season and $62.6 million next season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.

The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. Curry suffered a left hamstring injury in Game 1 and missed the rest of the series.

With Curry healthy again, the Warriors are title contenders with the future Hall of Famer, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green leading the way.

“There’s only so much you can control,” Curry said. “But we’ve got a really good understanding of what it takes to get through an 82-game season. We have some youth that can carry us. Hopefully, we can have a good complement of age and wisdom and youth and energy. But I know with me, Jimmy and Draymond, we all understand the work that goes in behind the scenes with recovery and all that type of stuff. If you want to win a championship, health is a big part of it. Every team that gets to the finish line has health on their side. So you cross your fingers and hope you can get it done.”

In 70 games last season, Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 44.8% from the field, 39.7% from beyond the arc and 93.3% from the free-throw line. He made the All-NBA Second Team.
