Grammy Award winner calls for Lakers to trade Anthony Davis

Lil Wayne thinks the Los Angeles Lakers need to trade Anthony Davis. The legendary rapper believes the purple and gold will need to trade the star big man if they want to win a championship.

"If you ask me," Lil Wayne said. "If the Lakers want to be a championship team, and in the future as well, you gotta get rid of AD. Because he's AD, plain and simple...Because that's his makeup, and that's who he is, and he's shown us that...Get rid of him and get some good players. We don't even need another superstar. We got LeBron over there."

Since helping the Lakers win the 2020 NBA Championship, Davis has struggled with injuries. He has played in less than 60 games for each of the past three seasons. Two of those seasons were 40 games or less.

LeBron James is 38-years-old. He needs a healthy roster around him in order to compete. Having the team's second-best player on the injury report for more than half the season is suboptimal. Davis could still obtain the Lakers a reasonable return in a trade. There will be teams out there willing to roll the dice on the All-Star.

General manager Rob Pelinka rebuilt the Lakers bench rotation this summer. They're supposed to be a contending team this season. However, concerns about Davis' ability to remain healthy continue to swirl. When he's on the court, Davis can be a dominant force. Yet, there is also inconsistency in his performance. Sometimes, Davis fails to rise to the occasion and lead his team.

LeBron's career has been about legacy. He wants to keep adding to his resume. If the best way for him to do that is by the Lakers making a blockbuster trade, then so be it. Lil Wayne may not be an NBA expert, but his idea for Los Angeles to call time on their partnership with Davis isn't far-fetched.

If the franchise is still struggling by February, Pelinka could be tempted to make some big changes. Davis will likely be at the top of his list.
