Jaren Jackson Jr. has had to carry a heavier load for the Memphis Grizzlies in their last two games amid Ja Morant’s injury situation. Morant has been forced to sit out the last two contests due to a lingering quad injury, and is now in danger of missing his third straight on Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns after being listed as questionable to play.
Jackson was also added to the injury report due to an illness, and the latest development on the two-time All-Star could spell more bad news for the Grizzlies. At this point, Memphis could be significantly shorthanded against the Suns.
Jackson has been a steady force for Memphis this season, averaging 18.5 points on 47.9% shooting, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 30.4 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-10 center is also knocking down 1.7 triples per game on a 37.3% clip.
Jackson has sat out just twice for the Grizzlies all season, but he is now in danger of missing his third. Memphis added its star big man to the injury report heading into Wednesday’s home game against the Suns. However, after being initially listed as probable to play, Jackson has now been downgraded to questionable.
The Grizzlies made the announcement via social media.
“Status Update: Jaren Jackson Jr. (Illness) is questionable tonight vs. Phoenix,” Grizzlies PR posted on X.

Morant also remains questionable to play, along with Santi Aldama. Six players have also been listed as out for Wednesday’s contest, which means that the Grizzlies will be significantly undermanned against Phoenix, especially if both Jackson and Morant sit out.
The Grizzlies, who are coming off a 106-105 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, are playing in the second night of a back-to-back set on Wednesday. They enter the Suns game with a 16-20 record and, as of writing, are 10th in the Western Conference.
If Morant and Jackson are both sidelined against Phoenix, their next chance to play would be on Friday against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
