After weeks of rumors, Kevin Durant has finally been traded to the Houston Rockets. The Phoenix Suns sent the former MVP to Houston for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
Unsurprisingly, the trade did not involve the Memphis Grizzlies, who weren't interested in Durant even after seismically altering the roster following the Desmond Bane trade. However, they have come up because Brooks was on the team for several years.
In fact, because Brooks was traded to the Suns, many have brought up a bizarre scenario from several years ago.
For context, the Suns and the Grizzlies agreed to a three-way trade with the Washington Wizards, where Phoenix thought they had acquired Dillon Brooks, whereas Memphis thought they had traded MarShon Brooks. This went down seven years ago.
After an hour or so of confusion, the trade was called off when both teams realized their trade partner had a different player in mind. Because Dillon Brooks was sent to Phoenix almost seven years later, jokes have come out referencing the trade, like from DaMichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Seven years later, the Suns finally got the Brooks they wanted.

Several other similar jokes have come out on X.
"Sources confirm the Suns do not think they are actually getting MarShon Brooks," one wrote.
"Just waiting for the trade to get cancelled because Houston thought we were talking about Marshon Brooks," another wrote.
"Are the Suns sure it's Dillon Brooks this time?" another asked. "Not MarShon."
This was definitely an embarrassing moment for all sides involved back in 2018. This time, though, the Grizzlies are not involved in this humiliating debacle.
