The Memphis Grizzlies wasted little time getting their offseason priorities in order.
Memphis is finalizing a five-year, $240 million renegotiation and extension with forward Jaren Jackson Jr., according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The former Defensive Player of the Year becomes the centerpiece of the team’s long-term plans as the franchise continues to build around its young core.
In addition to locking in Jackson, the Grizzlies also reached a three-year, $52.5 million agreement with restricted free agent forward Santi Aldama, per Charania. Both deals were struck within the opening 30 minutes of free agency.
Jackson, 24, has developed into one of the NBA’s premier interior defenders and a capable offensive weapon. He averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 2024–25, while playing in 74 games — his second straight relatively healthy season after early-career injury issues.
Aldama, 23, continued to grow into a versatile frontcourt option off the bench last season, averaging 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 36.8 percent from three.
It’s worth noting that the Grizzlies do not currently have the cap space required to finalize Jackson’s extension at the reported salary. To complete the deal, Memphis will need to make additional cost-cutting moves in the coming days.
