Malik, also referred to as Abdul-Malik, revealed his six finalists on August 19. The finalists were SMU, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, TCU and Minnesota.
Abdul-Malik is a four-star recruit in the Class of 2027, and he is in his final year of high school, where he plays for IMG Academy in Florida.
Abdul-Malik is originally from Texas, and he will now join Andy Enfield’s program beginning in the 2027-28 season.
Hakeem Olajuwon’s other son, Aziz, was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2026, and he decided to play for Stanford.
That means both Olajuwon sons will face each other in the 2027-28 season, with both SMU and Stanford in the ACC, assuming neither one transfers to another program.
Abdul-Malik also had offers from UNLV, Auburn and others, and he took visits to the finalists before making his decision.
SMU went 20-14 last season and lost in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, but Enfield’s program is on the rise and this is a big get for the Mustangs.
