Hawks announcer doesn't remember passing out during medical emergency

Atlanta Hawks play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun doesn't recall the exact nature of the on-air medical emergency he suffered back on Dec. 5.

"I don’t remember passing out, but I came too pretty quickly and (color commentator Dominique Wilkins) is standing over me and says, 'You passed out!' And I said, 'I did?'" Rathbun explained during an appearance on 92.9 The Game in Atlanta, per Jordan Bondurant of Barrett Sports Media. "So I really don’t even remember being faint at all. I was sick that day as many of you know. I wasn’t feeling well. But that’s the last thing that I thought was gonna happen. But I remember everything after that for sure."

Rathbun briefly lost consciousness during the pregame show ahead of the Dec. 5 home contest versus the Oklahoma City Thunder and was taken to a nearby medical facility for tests.

He was eventually cleared to return to work for this past Monday's home game against the Orlando Magic that the Hawks won 126-125.

"I told the folks at Bally that I consider myself to be the most fit broadcaster that they have, because they now have the papers to prove it," the 68-year-old continued during the radio segment. "They ran every test known to man, and I passed them all, everything’s fine ..."

The Hawks put together back-to-back victories to improve to 16-15 on the season ahead of Wednesday's matchup versus the Chicago Bulls (12-18).

Rathbun took to Twitter to again share his excitement about being able to call the action after he gave viewers and co-workers quite a scare weeks before Christmas.
