Hawks Pick Up Option On Mouhamed Gueye

The Hawks have exercised their fourth-year team option on Mouhamed Gueye, Michael Scotto reports for HoopsHype (Twitter link).

Gueye has emerged as a valuable and versatile bench player for Atlanta over the last few seasons. After starting 28 games as a sophomore, he came off the bench this year, playing a career-high 77 games and averaging 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game.

Despite being undersized at just 210 pounds, Gueye served as the team’s primary backup center during its playoff series against the Knicks with veteran center Jock Landale injured.

The scoring ability remains a work in progress, but Gueye fits in well with the versatile, hard-nosed culture that the Hawks have been attempting to build since before they traded star point guard Trae Young.

His option for next season is worth $2.4MM.
