The Hawks are fully guaranteeing Buddy Hield‘s $9.7MM salary for 2026/27, Michael Scotto reports for HoopsHype (via Twitter). Coming into the day, Hield’s salary was partially guaranteed for $3MM.
The two parties had previously agreed to push back the guarantee date on his option as the Hawks assessed their options. Hield only played seven games for Atlanta in the regular season and made two brief appearances in the playoffs, but he has some value as a veteran floor spacer whose contract could also be used for salary-matching purposes in a trade.
Atlanta has done a good job rounding out its guard/wing rotation so far this offseason, signing CJ McCollum to a one-year extension, selecting Kingston Flemings with the No. 8 pick in the draft, and agreeing to trade two second-round picks for wing Aaron Wiggins.
Depending on what happens with free agent Jock Landale, Atlanta could be in the market for big man depth, and Hield’s salary and history as an elite shooter could be a useful addition in any such deal.
Hield’s contract also includes a 2027/28 player option that’s partially guaranteed for roughly $3.14MM.
