The Heat lose to the Spurs but competed. They got run out of the Alamodome by the Spurs in the third quarter. Then, they made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter to take the lead. Then the Spurs knocked down clutch shots to win the game.

Key Sequence

The start of the second half, the Heat were up by 1 point on San Antonio. Then around the 2:56 mark, the Heat ran out of gas on offense. They missed their next five shots and committed a shooting foul. The Spurs were hot and closed the quarter up 87-72.

Then, the Heat made a furious comeback. From the start of the quarter to the 7:49 mark, the Heat shot 80% from the field. The Spurs made only two out of their next six shots, committed three fouls and two turnovers. The Heat were leading 89-88. The Spurs out-hustled Miami to get two key three-point shots to go up 96-91 and it was over.

Bam Adebayo highlight vs Wembamyama

As a fan, I really don’t care for dunks. Dunks are similar to solo home runs. When your team isn’t very good at defense, strike out too much and make a lot of errors, a dunk doesn’t matter. But, Bam Adebayo’s dunk on Victor Wembamyama was a one-on-one play in the first half that was unreal.

Adebayo squared up Wembamyama on the left corner. He out-quicked Wembamyama to get the angle and then Wembamyama was on “the launching pad.” Adebayo threw down the dunk similar to Lebron James over Jason Terry in the 2012 Eastern Conference finals versus Boston.

Adebayo is truly a different player when Tyler Herro isn’t on the court. Last year, Bam had a stretch of games where he was dominant, but then faded into the background when Herro returned. Last season, Adebayo averaged 24.8 points per game when Herro didn’t play opposed to 17.7 when he was there.

Herro is trying to return from a broken bone in his foot before the ten week prognosis. Adebayo can’t afford to fade again, but Herro also needs to share now. Norman Powell has taken the road trip off after a strong start to the season with a strained groin. So it will be interesting to see how Coach Spoelstra cuts “the scoring pie” when Herro returns.
