Norman Powell is extension eligible through June 30, 2026, and he said he wants to stay with the Heat, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. Powell is in the final year of his deal at 20.48 million.

“I love it here. I love everything about the Heat,” Powell said.

He added that he had interest in Miami back when he signed his Portland extension and that he likes the culture and the way the franchise pushes players beyond their own expectations.

Powell was averaging 24 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in his first three games on elite shooting before suffering a right groin strain. He has missed the past two games and is questionable for Sunday against the Lakers.

Powell said he hopes the Heat feel the same way about a long term future.

More Heat

— Per Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, some around the Heat have pushed for Adam Silver to create short term roster flexibility while the Terry Rozier situation plays out. Rozier is facing federal charges in the illegal gambling probe. A source told Winderman the Heat even had internal talks about waiving Rozier before the season.

Tyler Herro and rookie guard Kasparas Jakucionis are on the current four game road trip, per Chiang. Both are out Sunday, but Spoelstra said it is beneficial for them to be around the team and around the game environment. Jakucionis is considered day to day.

— Winderman also wrote that although Miami has shown interest in Ja Morant before, he does not expect the team to explore a buy-low situation now following Morant’s latest off-court issue and a one-game suspension for detrimental conduct.
