There are three Heat players involved in the Eurobasket tournament that started on Wednesday. Nikola Jovic, Simone Fontecchio and Pelle Larsson are representing their home countries (Serbia, Italy and Sweden.) For Heat fans that are excited for the season, they could start watching the three. Serbia is the “odds on favorite” to win the tournament.
Jovic will be a key member of Team Serbia. He was the player of the game in their victory over Estonia in Wednesday’s opening game. His stat line was 18 points, four rebounds and six assists. Other NBA players on the team are “The Joker,” Nikola Jokic and the deadly shooter, Bogan Bogdanovic.
Heat fans have been waiting for Nikola Jovic to become a consistent player for the team. Watching Coach Spoelstra after press conferences or interviews over Jovic’s seasons, he has been frustrated with the emotional maturity of Jovic. Jovic can be a key player for the Heat with his height, playmaking ability and youth (or be the next Michael Beasley.)
Pelle Larsson is a starter for Team Sweden. He played 21 minutes in the game against Finland, but got into foul trouble (five fouls.) Laurie Markannen scored 28 points and helped Finland beat Sweden. Larsson needs to improve on defending without fouling as that has been a mark on him since college.
Larsson can be a key player for the Heat this season. He can be the “defensive stopper” for the team. No one expected Larsson to have so much success in his rookie year, but is entering his sophomore season and has a lot to prove. Kasparas Jackulonis is not on the Lithuanian National team, although he is another European Heat player.
Simone Fontecchio is the only NBA player on the Italian team. Italy plays Georgia on Saturday at Limmasol in Cyprus at 08:30 a.m. Italy is in a pool with Spain and Greece. France and Slovenia are in Group D. Group B has Germany and Sweden. All these teams have NBA players and most likely will make up the final eight teams.
The streaming website Courtside 1891 will show Eurobasket games. As of 2023, there were 125 European players on NBA teams. NBA fans need to be watching the Eurobasket tournament as those players are stars in the NBA game. They can watch to see who plays well, who doesn’t and who gets injured.
