All of the Heat players (Nikola Jovic, Simone Fontecchio, Pelle Larsson) have lost in the Round of 16 of the Eurobasket tournament. Serbia was upset, Sweden was beat by one possible Championship contender and Italy to another. All the players played well and represented their teams with distinction.

Sweden loses to Turkiye

Turkiye has been the surprise of the Eurobasket tournament. They went undefeated in Group play and beat Serbia. The top player has been Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun. He leads the team in points, rebounds and efficiency. The Turks pulled away with a 26-13 third quarter to advance.

Pelle Larsson finished with 15 points on 6/13 shooting. Sweden had never advanced to the knockout stage of the Eurobasket tournament until this year. Larsson can now take a vacation before going to training camp.

Serbia gets upset by Finland

Serbia was the odds-on favorite to win the Eurobasket tournament, but Laurie Markannen had other plans. Finland upset the Serbs 92-86 to advance to the semis. Markannen finished with 29 points on 26 shots. He went to the foul line 13 times. Mark Cuban would say that the referees favored Finland and didn’t want Serbia to advance. He said plenty about the 2006 NBA Finals and the Heat earlier this week.

Italy loses to Luka

Italy played Slovenia and lost 84-77. Simone Fontecchio scored 22 points on 15 shots. He made four shots out of ten from three-point range. Luka Doncic scored 42 points on 19 shots for Slovenia. Most probably, Slovenia and Turkiye will meet in the Eurobasket final.

The teams that won advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Turkiye will play Poland and Slovenia will play Germany. Germany has been another top team in the tournament led by NBA players Dennis Schroder, Daniel Theis and Franz Wagner.
