Heat Sign Ryan Conwell To Three-Year Contract
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

The Heat have formally signed second-round pick Ryan Conwell, the team announced today in a press release.

According to Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel (Twitter link), Conwell signed a three-year contract that starts at the rookie minimum (about $1.36MM) and is fully guaranteed for the first season. The second year will be 50% guaranteed, while the third year features a team option and a conditional guarantee.

The full contract should be worth a total of about $6.35MM, as we detailed earlier today in our breakdown of the second-round pick exception numbers for 2026/27. Signing Conwell to the rookie minimum will allow the Heat to better navigate their cap/apron situation, since he’ll count for about $1.1MM less than a veteran minimum contract would.

Miami traded up from No. 41 to No. 37 for Conwell on the second night of the draft, sending cash to Oklahoma City in order to complete the deal and secure his rights.

A 6’4″ guard who finished his college career at Louisville, Conwell had a big senior year in 2025/26, averaging 18.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. While his shooting numbers dropped a little during his time with the Cardinals, the 22-year-old made 37.6% of his three-point tries over the course of four college seasons.

“Clearly we’re trying to identify players that have a shooting skill, and he certainly does,” assistant general manager Adam Simon. said after the draft, explaining the Conwell addition. “He’s projected overall as a 37% shooter, which would have been in the top percentile of 650 players that we had studied.”
