The Heat have reached an agreement to bring back Simone Fontecchio, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, who reports ( via Twitter) that the free agent forward will be signing a new one-year contract with the team.

According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald (Twitter link), Fontecchio will return on a minimum-salary contract, which projets to carry a cap hit of $2.45MM.

The 30-year-old Italian, who played professionally in Europe until 2022, has established himself as a reliable outside threat over the course of four NBA seasons in Utah, Detroit, and Miami. He has knocked down 36.7% of his three-point shots during that time, including 37.5% for Miami in 2025/26.

Adding outside shooting has been a priority entering the offseason for the Heat, who will be looking to space the floor around their new frontcourt star duo of Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Fontecchio is a player they’re familiar with. Initially acquired by Miami in last year’s Duncan Robinson sign-and-trade, he averaged 8.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 16.8 minutes per game across 70 outings (nine starts) for the Heat.

There were rumblings that Fontecchio was drawing overseas interest, with Olimpia Milano said to be eyeing him, but the 6’7″ wing will remain in the NBA for at least one more year.

Assuming second-round pick Ryan Conwell is signing for the rookie minimum, Miami projects to have about $16.7MM in wiggle room under its first-apron hard cap, with 11 players on standard contracts. That should give the Heat some flexibility to use a portion of their non-taxpayer mid-level exception on one or two free agent targets, though re-signing Norman Powell still appears unlikely unless the team is able to shed Nikola Jovic‘s salary.
