Tyler Herro anticipated that he would be dealt this summer. The former Heat guard was right, as he was a big part of the blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo deal and is now a member of the Bucks, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald writes.
“I saw it coming,” Herro said. “If any summer, it was going to be this summer, so I was anticipating this. And obviously not knowing Milwaukee, but I kind of figured I was going to get traded this summer. I’m excited and happy it’s Milwaukee.”
Herro understood why Miami wound up with the former Bucks forward, as its front office had been aiming to acquire a superstar.
“Miami is an organization that wants to win championships and they want to compete,” Herro said. “We’ve obviously almost got there, and we’ve had years where we’ve lost in the first round, we’ve had years where we didn’t make the playoffs. So it’s like, I’ve been through every ending of the season. And it makes sense for them to want to get a fresh start, get someone like Giannis and build from there. So, it’s understandable.”
Herro was interviewed by Heat beat writers in Las Vegas just before an ESPN report revealed that Heat center Bam Adebayo punched him earlier in the day. The altercation occurred “inside a gym in the Resorts World Casino in front of an AAU team run by Herro.”
Herro recently appeared to criticize Adebayo by posting an infographic on social media showing the least efficient mid-range shooters in the league last season, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. He also allegedly made comments critical of Adebayo’s performance and contract via a “burner account” in leaked direct messages with a fan.
Chiang elaborates that the comments that evidently angered Adebayo stem from screenshots of an Instagram direct message conversation shared on X in recent days. The profile seemingly run by Herro made veiled disparaging comments about Adebayo. “Why are Heat fans so worried about me and what I do? But I’m not the best player on the team right? I didn’t say any names. I’m just saying, should an elite defender be making 60 million a year? Answer that.”
Herro averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his last season with the Heat. He heads to Milwaukee with an expiring $33MM contract. However, he’ll remain in Miami as his adopted hometown.
“I’m going to probably live in Miami regardless,” Herro said. “Obviously, I’m going to be in Milwaukee during the season. But home will be Miami for me. My kids will go to school in Miami. And that’s how we’re going to do it.”
