The Philadelphia 76ers will likely prioritize the re-signing of restricted free agent Quentin Grimes after they lost Guerschon Yabusele to the New York Knicks this summer, and NBA analyst Zach Lowe believes that doing so is the right move.
“I think he’s going to be a weapon. He’s obviously going to re-sign there. They let Yabusele go to New York…They have the cap flexibility and apron flexibility to retain him. It’s just going to be a matter of the number and the years,” Lowe said about Grimes on his podcast.
“He shot 40% on catch-and-shoot threes. The shooting, I think, is pretty real. It’s still the number one most important thing to have around this largely theoretical team. I think he made a leap as a player that is pretty sustainable in a smaller role. I can’t wait to see how it looks,” he added.
Grimes came to the Philadelphia 76ers last February via a trade with the Dallas Mavericks. The 25-year-old swingman averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals on 46.9 percent shooting from the field across 28 regular season appearances.
Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George had an arthroscopic procedure last Monday, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The nine-time NBA All-Star reportedly injured his left knee during an offseason workout.
George had an underwhelming first full season with the Philadelphia 76ers, having averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals on 43.0 percent shooting from the field. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs with a 24-58 regular season record.
Besides George, Philadelphia is also being cautious with Joel Embiid, who also missed most of the 2024-25 campaign due to injuries. According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the one-time league MVP still hasn’t returned to on-court basketball activities.
