On Wednesday night, Gonzaga fans were treated to a memorable NBA Finals showdown as two former Zags went head-to-head on the sport’s biggest stage. Chet Holmgren put together another strong performance for the Oklahoma City Thunder, finishing with a double-double—20 points and 10 rebounds—but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Indiana Pacers, who took Game 3 with a 116-107 win to grab a 2-1 series lead.
Holmgren, the former No. 2 overall pick, continued to shine as a central piece of OKC’s game plan. His impact was felt on both ends of the court, using his length and mobility to challenge shots while converting efficiently in the paint. With the Thunder struggling to find consistent offense outside of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren’s energy and shot-making helped keep them within striking distance most of the night. Still, it wasn’t enough to slow down a balanced Indiana attack. Holmgren’s biggest downfall this game was not hitting from three point range. Holmgren was 0 of 6 from three.

Andrew Nembhard played a quieter role for the Pacers than in Game 1’s breakout performance, but he remained a steadying presence on the floor. The former Gonzaga point guard posted eight points, four rebounds, and one assist in 33 minutes of action. Foul trouble limited Nembhard somewhat—he picked up five fouls on the night—but his calm decision-making and perimeter defense helped keep Indiana composed during key second-half runs.
Indiana’s backcourt was led by Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin, who combined for 47 points. However, as Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle has noted throughout the postseason, Nembhard’s poise and consistency have helped stabilize the unit. His presence was felt even on a night when the box score didn’t pop.
For Gonzaga fans, this series has become a must-watch. Seeing two beloved program alums playing critical roles on opposing sides of the NBA Finals is a testament to how far Gonzaga basketball has come—and how its stars continue to impact the game at the highest level.
With at least two more games guaranteed, the Zags faithful will be watching closely as Holmgren looks to push the Thunder back into the series, and Nembhard works to help Indiana move one step closer to its first NBA championship.
