Hornets Sign Jarkel Joiner, Waive Kyle Mangas

The Hornets continue to move players in and out of the final spot on their 21-man offseason roster, announcing today (via Twitter) that they’ve signed guard Jarkel Joiner while waiving guard Kyle Mangas.

Joiner, a 6’1″ point guard who went undrafted out of NC State in 2023, signed non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts with Atlanta in 2023 and 2024 and with Toronto in 2025. He has spent his first three professional seasons in the G League with the Hawks’ and Raptors’ affiliates.

Last season, Joiner made 49 appearances for the Raptors 905, averaging 10.9 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per game, with a shooting line of .446/.356/.820. He also played for the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this year.

As we outlined earlier this week, Charlotte has repeatedly been signing free agents and then waiving them a day later, having now done so with Josiah Allick, Trey Townsend, and Mangas this week. The goal is to ensure that those players are incentivized to sign G League contracts and join the Greensboro Swarm this fall. They’ll each receive an Exhibit 10 bonus worth up to $91K if they spend at least 60 days with Charlotte’s NBAGL affiliate.

Joiner’s G League rights are still held by the Raptors 905, so a trade will be necessary for the Swarm to acquire them. That will likely happen at some point before the G League season tips off.

Mangas, meanwhile, is on track to become a returning-rights player for the Swarm after they traded for him last month.
