Hornets Signing Harry Giles To One-Year Contract

The Hornets intend to sign forward/center Harry Giles to a one-year contract, offering him a chance to earn a spot on the roster, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Giles, 26, is 6-foot-11 and was once considered a top prospect, but his career has been plagued by knee injuries.

He signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Nets before last season, staying on the roster until February, when he was waived. He then signed a two-way deal with the Lakers to finish the season.

In 23 games combined last year, Giles averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds. Along with the Nets and Lakers, he has spent time with the Kings and Trail Blazers, as well as in the G League.

He’s a native of North Carolina and played his college ball at Duke, so signing with Charlotte serves as a homecoming for him. He was originally selected by Portland with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The Hornets currently have 13 players under fully guaranteed contracts, along with big man Taj Gibson, who has a partial guarantee. So Giles should indeed be afforded a long look at camp and in the preseason.
