Hornets Waive Mouhamadou Gueye

After going undrafted out of Pitt in 2022, Gueye spent most of his first four professional seasons in the G League, playing for the Texas Legends, Raptors 905, Capital City Go-Go, and Windy City Bulls. In 2025/26, the 6’9″ forward averaged 14.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks in 29.2 minutes per game over the course of 47 outings for Windy City, Chicago’s NBAGL affiliate.

Gueye’s solid play in the G League earned him a two-year contract with the Bulls during the last week of the regular season. The 28-year-old, who previously made 11 appearances for Toronto during the 2023/24 season, logged 45 minutes in Chicago’s final two regular season contests in April, contributing 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Gueye, whose minimum salary for the 2026/27 was non-guaranteed, was sent from Chicago to Charlotte earlier this month in the four-team trade headlined by LaMelo Ball, Julius Randle, and Nic Claxton in order to satisfy the “touch” rules for all four clubs.

The Hornets, who had been carrying a full 21-man offseason roster prior to waiving Gueye, now have one one spot but are still dealing with a roster crunch that they’ll have to address at some point prior to opening night this fall.

Charlotte has 17 players on standard contracts, including 16 with guaranteed salaries, and all three of the team’s two-way slots are occupied as well.
