The Houston Rockets Jabari Smith and Tari Eason are both key players who are a part of the young nucleus on the roster. Both players are eligible for extensions until the start of the 2025–26 season, giving teams a few months to finalize terms. With the NBA offseason officially underway soon, front offices across the league are facing critical roster decisions

According to team sources, they are comfortable matching any offer that would come for either in restricted free agency in 2026, assuming that a deal isn't agreed upon this offseason. Eason and Smith have been key cogs in Ime Udoka's setup, with a two-way, unselfish approach that meshes well with the roster.

Smith averaged 12.2 ppg and 7 rebounds during the season. Eason also was a key contributor as he averaged 12.0 ppg along with 6.4 rebounds. Both players were able to elevate their games this season as they led the Rockets to the second-best record in the Western Conference.

What sets Smith apart from many forwards his size is his fluidity. Whether he's defending on the perimeter, slipping screens on the pick-and-roll, or running in transition, Smith moves like a much smaller player. Eason's agility has allowed him to switch onto guards, protect the rim, and still contribute as a rebounder which are all key traits in today's positionless game.
