Following their first-round exit at the hands of the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets plan to continue building their roster in hopes of becoming a legitimate contender in the Western Conference.
According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, the Houston Rockets are reportedly keen to re-sign Steven Adams. However, if Adams joins a different team, Houston could consider acquiring another veteran center.
“If Adams leaves, team sources said the Rockets could reignite their interest in Brook Lopez. The 37-year-old, who averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game shooting 37 percent from 3 in Milwaukee last season, was previously a target for Houston and would theoretically be a fit, given his two-way production and health,” Iko wrote in his column.
Brook Lopez is reportedly expected to leave the Milwaukee Bucks this summer. The Houston Rockets could benefit from Lopez’s championship experience, length, and outside shooting.
The Houston Rockets reportedly remain interested in acquiring Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. Houston controls Phoenix’s first-round draft selections in 2025, 2027, and 2029, so Phoenix may be interested in getting their draft picks back.
“Phoenix is aggressive in pursuit of a) trading Kevin Durant and b) regaining full control of their draft capital starting with the No. 10 pick in next month’s draft, team sources said,” Iko wrote in his The Athletic column.
“Since the conclusion of the season, Houston has fielded several calls from Phoenix, who have since gradually lowered their asking price for Durant, those sources said. There is a price where the Rockets would be interested, but with a fear of breaking up their roster for a 36-year-old coming off injury, doubt remains over a deal materializing,” he added.
