On Thursday, the Golden State Warriors starters mustered 28 points to lose 144-93 to the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. Despite the rivalry implications on the line, Golden State seemed unfazed by the onslaught of offense Memphis deployed on the road team. Amid the terrible performances, Stephen Curry hit a new career-low record vs. the Grizzlies.
Given that the Warriors began their season as one of the best teams in the NBA, their derailment reminds us that Curry's twilight years loom. Although he has the star power to dominate personal 10-0 runs against the Dallas Mavericks and lead the Warriors to victories over the Boston Celtics and the Oklahoma City Thunder, Curry isn't the MVP-level player of a few years prior.
However, regardless of Curry's regression, his putrid performance against the Grizzlies sent a shock wave through the Warriors' fan base.
Curry scored two points in 24 minutes. The Warriors' point guard failed to register a field goal and, despite holding the crown for the best shooter in league history, couldn't convert from the 3-point line.
According to Clutchpoints, he failed to record a field goal for the seventh time in his career. The last time he recorded such a statistic, he only played two minutes against the San Antonio Spurs. However, the one number that significantly sticks out is the loss to the Grizzlies. It is the only time he didn't make a field goal in over 12 minutes.
While their season isn't over, their slide to the 10th seed at 14-12 indicates that Curry needs help as soon as Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. can get on the phone.
