Although it's unlikely the Atlanta Hawks jammed "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley following the 108-100 victory over the New York Knicks, Trae Young rolled the dice in Madison Square Garden, much to the crowd's dismay. Young took his villain role to the next step, using the Knicks' logo as a prop.
Atlanta's star point guard scored 22 points and dished 11 assists. During the Hawks' 17-4 run in the third quarter, which began their dominant stretch over the Knicks, Young scored 10 points.
However, he'd save his best Madison Square performance for the postgame festivities. In a celebratory moment, Young rolled dice on the Knicks' logo at center court.
Young explained his actions during the postgame media availability.
"I rolled an 8, picked it up, rolled it again, picked up the money, and we left," Young said.
According to Young, he planned the antics a few days prior with his brother. The celebration stems from the Hawks advancing to the NBA Cup semifinal, which they played in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Knicks' interior defense plummeted, and the Hawks dominated with 66 points in the paint. New York's misfortunes at the expense of their rival team date back to the 2023-24 season, as the Hawks won three consecutive games over the Knicks.
The Hawks will face the Milwaukee Bucks, with the winner either playing the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Houston Rockets for the NBA Cup championship.
Meanwhile, the Knicks' next game is Sunday at 6 PM Eastern time against the Orlando Magic. Despite losing the NBA Cup, they'll relish the rest before facing a fierce defensive Magic squad.
