During the San Antonio Spurs' last game on Sunday night, rookie Stephon Castle suffered a gnarly shoulder injury. He left the game but returned with quite a bit of padding on the affected area and ultimately finished with a solid 22 points. He was praised for his toughness, but he has been ruled out for the Spurs' clash against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
Fellow former UConn Husky Donovan Clingan is questionable with an ankle injury. He and Castle won the NCAA title last year, and a reunion between the two will have to be put off.
Plenty of fans were expecting Castle not to miss any time with this injury, but he insists it's nothing serious.
"When it first happened, I really didn't know what it was," he said of the injury. "They said it was good, and I got a little treatment and decided to feel better while I was out there. So I came back in and finished the game."
Castle admits that the shoulder is still sore, but he's not worried about it lasting much longer. This will be his first regular-season game missed, although a wrist injury sidelined him for much of the summer league.
"Injuries are probably the worst part of basketball," he continued. "So I'm doing whatever I can to prevent those, especially this early in the season. Trying to be available."
The Spurs had nearly a week off, so any injury recovery should be off to a good start, but the team still has a loaded injury report heading into tonight's matchup.
