Amid a five-game losing streak, the Golden State Warriors require a ray of positivity. On Thursday evening at the Chase Center, they can repeat history. The 15-7 Houston Rockets come into hostile territory against the desperate 12-8 Warriors.
Although the Rockets have the better record, the Warriors have a dominant streak over the Houston franchise.
The Warriors have a contentious history with the Rockets. Although the two franchises have since cooled off playoff battles, the James Harden era featured multiple postseason classics, specifically with Chris Paul.
However, as that was in the 2010s, the 2020s are barren of Rockets success over the Warriors.
The last Rockets' victory at the expense of the Warriors occurred on Feb. 20, 2020.
The 2019-20 campaign, aside from being the infamous COVID season, also featured the season-ending hand injury that doomed Stephen Curry. In addition to Curry's injury, Klay Thompson didn't play throughout the season due to the ACL injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.
Considering the hindering circumstances, the Warriors likely don't remember such a loss. However, their 14-game winning streak over the Rockets likely lives in both franchise's consciousness.
Yet, in the same breath, these young Rockets don't share the memories of the Harden era. It's plausible that the 2024-25 Rockets will provide the Warriors with significant resistance.
Despite a rich history of beating the Rockets, the Warriors' current dip in results counteracts a momentum that has since shifted between the two franchises. Expect a highly competitive contest between the two Western Conference teams.
