In November 2016, the Golden State Warriors faced the Toronto Raptors on what was dubbed "Drake Night." According to Reddit, this means that the hometown rapper Drake was there to energize the crowd, which became even more excited with giveaways of October's Very Own shirts, the lifestyle brand co-founded by the 38-year-old.

While this certainly thrilled many in the arena, one person who wasn't impressed was then-Warriors superstar Kevin Durant. After the game, which ended with a score of 127-121 in favor of his team, KD was asked about the special event and bluntly replied, "I don't give a damn about no damn Drake night."

Tense mood during the matchup

As noted by the reporter after the game, that period marked Durant's first extended road trip with the Warriors. Just a few months earlier, the NBA superstar had signed a lucrative contract with the stacked team after falling short of a ring with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In their matchup against the Raptors, which was the first of a four-game road trip, the Dubs were riding high on a four-game winning streak. They capitalized on this momentum as "Durantula" came out strong from the start, eventually finishing the night with an impressive 30 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

During the contest, the 6'11" forward reportedly engaged in a back-and-forth with Drake, who was courtside as usual. Tension was also palpable after the game when KD, standing in front of the microphone, was bumped by the Canadian rapper. While the reigning All-Star didn't appear pleased by that, his savage comment before walking off clearly indicated he had the last laugh.

Friends instead of foes

Naturally, there wasn't any real conflict between Drake and Durant, as they are known to have a close friendship. It seems that the two of them were just exchanging some good old trash talk in the heat of the moment, and they probably have mutual respect for each other's talents in their respective professions.

For instance, KD once praised Drake's album "Her Loss," suggesting it might be the best of the artist's career while offering high praise.

"The music is so incredible, and you can see the growth, and even that is crazy for somebody we consider the best ever. I heard some songs on this album that made me think I never heard that flow from Drake before, I had never heard him on this type of beat. He is really trying some stuff, and it's stickin," remarked the two-time NBA champ.

In return, "The 6 God" most definitely acknowledges the amazing basketball skills of "Durantula," who is one of the best scorers the game has ever witnessed.

However, there was a time when Drake's local team, the Raptors, actually had the edge over the 2014 MVP. This occurred during the 2019 NBA Finals, where Toronto defeated Golden State 4-2. But to be fair to KD, he couldn't do much about that outcome as he was dealing with injuries practically throughout the entire series.
