'I Don’t Know How We Lost in General' – Celtics Star Reflects on 2024-25 NBA Season

The Boston Celtics were eyeing to defend their NBA championship in the 2024-25 season. The season before that, the team won the title for the first time since 2008. Unfortunately for the defending champions at that time, they couldn’t win over their tough Eastern Conference rivals. In the playoffs, the team also lost its best player, Jayson Tatum, after sustaining a devastating torn Achilles tendon.

Boston was a favorite to be in the Finals last season. After all, they didn’t lose any of their core players and looked like the team was poised to contend and potentially win another title. The group finished the season strong with a 61-21 record, which was second-best in the Eastern Conference.

However, the team could only go as deep as the second round and was eliminated by the New York Knicks after six games. In the new season of Netflix’s “Starting 5,” All-Star forward Jaylen Brown revealed his honest thoughts about what happened at the 2024-25 campaign.

“It’s a part of the game, you gotta accept both the highs and the lows,” Brown said. “Last year, we won the championship. Duckboats, champagne… this year, we gotta listen to insufferable [New York] Knicks fans. I don’t know how we lost in general… but we lost.”

It was a tough loss for Brown and the Celtics, since they were touted to be one of the top teams in the East last season. While they had one of the best chances to come out of the East, the injury to Tatum was too much for the team. Boston lost one of their top scorers during the most crucial times of the NBA year.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has established himself as one of the more interesting coaches in the NBA. He’s intense, straightforward and unintentionally hilarious. In the new season of the Netflix show, he boasted great confidence in himself that he’d win a boxing match against Brown.

Mazzulla said that he sees Brown shadowboxing at times, which he respects and believes that it’s the NBA star’s way of energizing himself. But when it comes down to which among the two of them will win in a boxing match, the head coach has the confidence to beat the one-time Finals MVP.

“He may win in one fight but either he’s gonna win or we’re both gonna die,” Mazzulla said.

“If I’m going to taste death you’re coming with me.”

Mazzulla has proven once again that he’s not an ordinary head coach.
