Victor Wembanyama, a one-time All-Star, has been the subject of discussion because of potential durability issues in the NBA, a highly physical basketball league. His lightly built, tall figure not helping his image in the slightest, fans and pundits have been pointing out to that fact, but only until recently.

Since being drafted as the #1 overall pick by the South Texas outfit coming from his exploits in French and EuroLeague basketball, Victor Wembanyama has been on a road to a transformation. Almost two years into his NBA career, he’s added some bulk and weight.

“I gained probably like 30 pounds,” Victor Wembanyama said in an interview with Kevin Hart’s ‘Cold as Balls’ show.

The 21-year-old noted that he was around 215 to 220 pounds when he joined. Two years later, fast forward to now, he’s already reached 240 pounds. This is also considering that Victor Wembanyama’s sophomore campaign was terminated prematurely by a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

It can be remembered that Victor Wembanyama went viral while training at the Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou, China, embracing a training regimen that mixes martial arts and meditation. He even had his head shaved in this 10-day training camp.

While bulking up and strengthening his stock is the objective, Victor Wembanyama is keeping track of what he’s doing. Focused on not just adding to his gains, but also to his versatility.

“Strength training, of course, but the main thing, for me, is I could, in theory, put on a lot of weight, but I would lose some of my mobility, some of my athleticism,” Wembanyama said. “So, it’s something that needs to be done really carefully, and I have a lot of eyes and a lot of minds thinking about me in this instance.”

Fans can expect something new when Victor Wembanyama hits the hardwood floor soon.

The NBA has been home to great athletes with great dexterity, skill, or even height, with a decent amount of basketball. But seeing these attributes in a seven-foot-three form factor is amazing.

“It’s actually scary how fast he learns… footwork and rhythms that took me years… in minutes. I’ve never met a 20‑year‑old like him.” – Jamal Crawford
