The Denver Nuggets have been active on Monday as they improve their roster for the 2025-26 NBA season. At the start of free agency, the Nuggets made significant changes to the team. One of their moves was to sign three-and-D guard Bruce Brown. The guard was part of the team’s 2023 title squad but wasn’t retained by the front office. Now, Brown will get another chance to play with the organization that led him to earn his championship ring.
The other move the Nuggets made was a trade involving Michael Porter Jr. The management decided it was time to part ways with the 6-foot-10 forward and dealt him to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson. Denver also traded a 2032 unprotected first-round pick to Brooklyn.
With the recent move, the Nuggets handed the Nets the burden of Porter’s five-year, $179.2 million contract. The forward has two years left in his deal before he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
NBA insider Michael Scotto got a chance to talk to Johnson after the trade was reported. According to Scotto, the 6-foot-8 forward is excited to join the Nuggets and contend for a title, after missing the playoffs the past three years.
“I’m excited to compete for a championship. It’s a new beginning,” Johnson said.
I spoke with Cam Johnson shortly ago about his reaction to being traded by the Brooklyn Nets to the Denver Nuggets for Michael Porter Jr and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick.

Johnson hasn’t been in the postseason since the Phoenix Suns included him in a trade package to the Nets for Kevin Durant in 2023. While in Brooklyn, the forward had one of the best seasons of his career. During the 2024-25 campaign, the forward averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
The deal allows the Denver Nuggets to absorb Johnson’s contract, which is team-friendly. The forward has two years left in his four-year, $94.5 million contract he signed in 2023.
