An Ime Udoka update has surfaced after the Rockets’ early playoff exit, and it gives a clearer idea of how Houston views the collapse. The Rockets fell to the Lakers in six games, ending a season that had much bigger expectations than a first-round goodbye.
The concern was not just that Houston lost, but how quickly things unraveled when the series started slipping away. There are still obvious questions about decision-making, execution, and whether this group is actually close to contending. Still, despite the disappointment, reports suggest Udoka’s role with the team is not expected to change.
The Houston Rockets are NOT expected to fire Ime Udoka this summer, per @sam_amick

Sam Amick of the Athletic confirmed that Udoka will continue in his role despite the Rockets’ performance in the post season. He said, “While Udoka will certainly be under fire for the part he played in the collapse, he signed a lucrative multiyear extension last summer that most league observers believe should shield him from being fired.”
Houston’s season had all the ingredients for something bigger, but it never really came together when it mattered.
The Rockets were supposed to take a major leap after adding Kevin Durant. On paper, it made sense: elite scorer, tough defense, young talent, and a coach known for getting teams to compete. Instead, Houston’s year ended with another early playoff exit, this time against the Lakers, and the performance raised some uncomfortable questions.
Injuries did play a big role. Durant missed most of the series, Fred VanVleet’s absence left the offense without a steady organizer, and Steven Adams being out hurt one of Houston’s biggest strengths: second-chance points. But the problems went beyond bad luck. The Rockets often looked disjointed, especially in tight moments. Their offense could stall badly, and late-game decision-making became a recurring issue.
That is where Ime Udoka comes in. He will take criticism for Houston’s collapse, especially after the team kept making the same mistakes in big moments. His contract extension, combined with his defensive reputation, should keep him in place despite the disappointing finish.
Now Houston has a tricky offseason ahead. Durant is still good enough to build around, but he is also near the end of his career. The young core still has value, but the Rockets may need more shooting, more ballhandling, and possibly another major move.
The question is simple: do they stay patient, or go even harder into win-now mode?
