Insider declares LeBron James a ‘live option’ for Warriors

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has been linked to the Golden State Warriors for a few years now. Fans have repeatedly speculated that James would want to play with Warriors guard Stephen Curry before he retires.

Similar to Curry, James has a close relationship with Warriors forward Draymond Green. The four-time MVP was handled by coach Steve Kerr on Team USA. Plus, in 2024, Golden State made a secret attempt to acquire James at the trade deadline. Simply put, the ties are aplenty for the future Hall of Famer and the Warriors.

The 41-year-old superstar has remained mum on his future after playing his 23rd season. He is expected to test the waters in free agency before making a decision.

The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami said James signing with the Warriors is an “extremely practical solution.” He, however, conceded that it won’t be the “likeliest scenario,” given the financial constraints. Still, Kawakami stressed that all is not lost for the Warriors.

“What if LeBron and the Lakers go through a relationship reevaluation similar to what Kerr and the Warriors just went through, but in this one, the two sides decide to split?” wrote Kawakami.

“Well, now, if all that happens, I think the Warriors would be a very live option. Check that: I think the process has already started, and the Warriors are a live option.”

James has had intense battles with the Warriors, and it could be quite unnerving to see him wearing their jersey next season.

Golden State, however, could only offer $15.1 million to the four-time champion, as noted by Kawakami. That might not be enough to lure James, who averaged a career-low 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists this season.

But as history would show, stranger things have happened in the NBA. Remember Kevin Durant and the clandestine meeting at The Hamptons?

“The Lakers might not be able to get significantly better if they keep LeBron. And the Warriors might not be able to get significantly better unless they add LeBron,” added Kawakami.
