For the fourth time in his career, LeBron James is the most sought-after free agent in the NBA.
The four-time NBA champion has the league on hold while he makes his decision, with teams only making marginal moves to save cap space and flexibility. Notably, it seems this will be the status quo for a while, as he's in no rush to make a decision right now.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, James won't sign with any team for at least another week.
“More people than not that I speak to do not expect a resolution this week,” Stein said. “The feeling is that this is going to seep into Summer League and will last until at least next week.”
At least 10 teams reportedly reached out ot James' camp, though all proposals went directly through his agent, Rich Paul, and he didn't meet with any of the teams.
As things stand now, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers seem to be the teams still standing in this race, though anything can change in the blink of an eye at this point in the year.
James is about to play his record 24th season, but he's clearly still got plenty left in the tank. And while having him for his final season would be great for PR and jersey sales, he proved that he can still ball at a high level and help any of these teams turn the page and return to championship contention.
