Insider Shares 3 Key Spurs Storylines To Monitor Next Season

The San Antonio Spurs boast a lot of talent on their squad heading into the 2025-26 season. Amid the growing hype surrounding their young roster, NBA insider Zach Lowe outlined three expectations for the team on a recent episode of "The Zach Lowe Show." He said:

"If I'm a Spurs optimist for next season only, you look at next season in a vacuum...I'm banking on three things. No. 1, Wembanyama is absolutely incredible. He's a top 10 player already. I don't even know how fast his development could happen and where he will rank after next season, if he stays healthy. It's frightening."

"No. 2, I think Fox is going to be hungry. I think he wanted to go to San Antonio. I expect him to get a deal done this summer, so he'll feel secure and wanted. No mystery, no nothing."

Lowe pointed out that De'Aaron Fox was probably aware of the criticism of him not being effective after joining San Antonio. This could fuel a resurgent performance from him next season.

"No. 3, I think they're going to be a hard-playing, deep team, every single game, which has a lot of value in the regular season over 82 games. Youth and effort can go a long way if you have enough talent."

Beyond those three factors, Lowe also highlighted the Spurs’ vast draft capital. With approximately 23 picks in hand, San Antonio has a very expansive collection of picks, putting them in a comfortable spot for the future.

There is a lot to look forward to with this Spurs team. Served by a star in Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs have enough potential on their roster to become a title-contender at some point in the future.

Despite acquiring Fox last season, the Spurs saw little of his pairing with Wembanyama, who was sidelined with a blood clot diagnosis, effectively sidelining him for the season.

While this raised concerns for his long-term availability, the Spurs star has recovered and is expected to be back in action soon. This is tremendous news for San Antonio, especially considering the faith the 21-year-old has shown in the franchise and its young core. 

Aside from Wembanyama, the Spurs have seen some tremendous additions to their team this year. With the No. 2 overall pick, San Antonio selected a talented combo guard in Dylan Harper, who has been showing out in the Summer League.

Along with Harper, the Spurs also added a defensive savant in Carter Bryant with the No. 14 overall pick. Bryant’s discipline and work ethic will likely earn him a spot in the regular rotation. With incredible upside, his development could also create different opportunities for the Spurs' approach to roster building.

The Spurs' long-term outlook is undeniably exciting. While they may certainly be dominant in the future, next season will bring its own challenges, as a fiercely competitive Western Conference accelerates the learning curve for San Antonio’s promising young squad.
