Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the Golden State Warriors is one of the biggest concerns of the team this offseason. Kuminga will be a restricted free agent this summer after not reaching an agreement with the organization regarding a contract extension. Kuminga and Golden State failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension, which is why the franchise could lose the athletic forward this summer.

According to general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the team is “a main priority” in free agency. The former NBA player said that he’ll “figure something out sooner than later.” Whether it’s a new deal or a sign-and-trade, dealing with the youngster is the organization’s concern.

Throughout this, Jonathan Kuminga’s name has been mentioned in most trade rumors heading into the offseason. The Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat have been linked to the 2022 champion in a potential sign-and-trade approach.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne talked about the Warriors’ situation with Jonathan Kuminga.

“I know there’s a couple of teams that are interested in him,” Shelburne said. “But those would be sign-and-trades. They don’t have the cap space to get it done.

“Do the Warriors want to even participate in those sign-and-trades? If they do, what’s the number? There’s probably three or four teams I’ve heard that have some level of interest. What is that level of interest?

“Does he scoff at that and then take a really long time to make a decision and tie up their cap space? I think that’s the biggest thing you have to look for… The Kuminga question is going to hang over everything because it has the potential to get messy.”

The addition of Jimmy Butler makes it impossible for the Warriors to pursue another star

The addition of Jimmy Butler has helped the Warriors improve their roster, especially in the postseason. After securing him in the five-team trade, Golden State signed the six-time All-Star to a two-year, $121-million extension.

Amid the talks of improving their depth this summer, Dunleavy said that having Butler’s new deal makes it almost “impossible” for them to add another star.

“I think we’ll look at stuff. We’ll look at players that we really like that may — we’ve just got to be — it’s just almost impossible for us to add players in the salary range of guys we were looking at last summer since we’ve added Jimmy,” Dunleavy said.

Still, Dunleavy said that Golden State will explore other options to look for talented players who could fit well to their system.
