‘It’ll be close…’ Denver Nuggets gave up a player who could ‘win the scoring title’ next season

The Denver Nuggets might have given up a star who has the potential to win the NBA scoring title next season.

The Denver Nuggets have made some massive moves this offseason. After a disappointing seven-game series against the NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder, they wanted to improve the roster.

The Nuggets came out swinging in the offseason. They signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. to team-friendly deals in free agency.

The Nuggets also traded for Cam Johnson, adding a great 3-and-D wing player on a great contract. And to provide Nikola Jokic some backup, the Nuggets landed Jonas Valanciunas.

However, there were some concerns with Valanciunas potentially leaving for the Euroleague. But the Nuggets managed to keep Valanciunas in the NBA.

With that trade conundrum sorted, the Nuggets will be on cloud nine. But that might not be the case if one of the players who exited wins the NBA scoring title.

Michael Porter Jr. has potential to challenge for NBA scoring title with Brooklyn Nets

An anonymous Brooklyn Nets executive spoke to Keith Smith of Spotrac about landing Michael Porter Jr. this offseason.

While the Nets are trying to build a young roster, they like the addition of Michael Porter Jr. and do believe that he can be a strong scorer on their team, and could challenge for the NBA scoring title.

“We’re transitioning our roster, of course. We’re going to play a lot of young players. But we need some vets to balance that.

“And, of course, we need to score some points. Porter will help us a ton there. I’m not saying he’ll win the scoring title, but I think it could be close.”

Denver Nuggets might regret trading Michael Porter Jr.

The Denver Nuggets got rid of Michael Porter Jr., presumably because of his expensive contract. He makes $78 million over the next two seasons.

But despite his expensive contract, Porter Jr. is a really good player. He could be a revelation on the Brooklyn Nets.

Porter Jr. praised the Nets for their work ethic after his first training session with them. If head coach Jordi Fernandez can get him to be at his best, then he could achieve All-Star status next season.

However, Porter Jr.’s injury issues might get in the way. The hope right now is that he can stay healthy next season and play at the highest level.
