San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle is nearing the end of a standout rookie season with confidence, leading the charge in the NBA Rookie of the Year race.

Castle, selected fourth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, has excelled on the court, averaging 14.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game, securing his position as the top scorer among rookies.

Despite the Spurs’ challenges following Victor Wembanyama‘s season-ending injury, Castle’s performance has been a bright spot. He has maintained strong figures, especially in the absence of Wembanyama, averaging 17.6 points and 4.7 assists in recent games.

“I feel I’ve always played free and try not to overthink things,” Castle said. “It is hard as a rookie to not but right now, (I’m) just flowing and trying to let the game come to me, trusting my teammates more than anything and getting confidence from their trust in me, as well.”

As the season wraps up, Castle faces stiff competition from fellow rookies like Atlanta Hawks’ Zaccharie Risacher and Washington Wizards’ Alexandre Sarr. Still, his comprehensive impact makes him a strong candidate for the award.

Castle’s optimism reflects his rapid adjustment to the NBA and growing role within the Spurs’ lineup.

“I feel like at this point, I pretty much got it locked up,” Castle said on Sunday. “(I’m) really just continuing to be myself, not really think about it when I’m in the game. But game by game, I feel like I’m more confident to be able to say that I am (the Rookie of the Year).”

The Spurs, hopeful for their prospect, look to Castle to continue his impressive play as they navigate the remainder of the season.
