Jaden McDaniels burned Heat with cold-blooded cigarette celebration

There were so many great moments during the Wolves’ 131-106 season-opening win over Miami that it’s hard to remember them all, but the in-game antics from Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels were especially entertaining.

Instead of whining like a baby (Hi, Luka Doncic) all night, Edwards barked at his opponents with his patented trash talk and backed it up with 45 points on 16-for-29 shooting, including nine three-pointers.

The best moment of the night was something most fans probably missed in real time.

McDaniels was standing at the top of the three-point line with nobody near him as Edwards launched a three from the right corner. With the ball in the air, McDaniels mimed smoking a cigarette, flicking the butt to the ground, and stomping it out with his right foot just as the shot swished through the net.

When Edwards was seen hollering toward the Heat bench as Minnesota dominated in the second half, it was because someone on Miami’s bench had apparently gone quiet after talking trash.

“A player on their bench was talking trash at one of the dead-ball situations. I think it kind of crunked me up, because he was talking pretty crazy. And then when I started talking to him, he really didn’t have too much more to say. And I don’t really like that,” Edwards said afterward. “If you’re going to talk s***, keep talking s***. Don’t get quiet. I think that was pretty much the reason why I was super intense tonight.”

Who was talking trash?

“I don’t know his name,” Edwards said.

A reporter asked Edwards if it was a player named Myron. If it was, the only Myron on the Miami roster is Myron Gardner, a second-year forward whose 167 career points give him zero reason to talk smack to one of the best players on the planet.

But, hey, bring it on.

“I love that. I love that aspect of the game. That fuels me every time,” Edwards stated.
