The Denver Nuggets have had an up-and-down start to the 2024-2025 season. Although Nikola Jokic is playing maybe the best basketball of his career, his supporting cast has looked thin, and the spotlight is being placed in Jamal Murray's direction.
However, it seems that hasn't bothered the Canadian point guard too much, as he recently took a small trip to New York to watch the UFC live amidst the Nuggets road trip.

Murray is a huge fan of the UFC and is often seen at the events, but it seems this was a case of wrong place, wrong time. Fans online absolutely roasted the Kentucky product, and they questioned if he really cares about the game so much after putting up another stinker in Denver's loss vs. the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant.
Why is Jamal Murray flying all over the country going to UFC fights on off days when he's been horrible all year after just signing a max contract?

Probably should spend more time focusing on a job where he's doing a lot less than he's supposed be.
Jamal Murray flew to New York between games on the current Nuggets road trip to watch UFC 309 yesterday. Tonight he finished with 13 points, 6 turnovers, 6-15 FG as Denver loses to the Grizzlies without Morant in Memphis.@BarelPini @sorokman @idogur https://t.co/Pmt6yGHr0o

Jamal Murray got the worst contract in NBA history I don’t even think it’s up for debate. 55 million for a 0x all star and role player.

Following a horrible start to a road trip on which you have to be the team’s best player you took a flight from New Orleans to New York and need to fly back to Memphis by tomorrow for a basketball game

Jamal Murray’s priorities are not basketball right now. https://t.co/istmfvhALY
Best part of Jamal is how much he cared and it looks like all of that is gone so now he’s just some guy

With Jokic out of the lineup, the Nuggets looked to their star point guard to carry the weight, but Jamal has been lackluster, to say the least. In their IST loss vs. the New Orleans Pelicans, the Candian put up 16 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, but on just 37.5 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from deep.
The 6'4'' guard followed that up with an even worse game in Memphis, scoring 13 points with seven dimes and six boards on 40 percent shooting and 17.5 percent for three, as the Nuggets dropped to 7-5 on the season. To make matters worse, it was apparent Jamal's trip to NY between the two games left a tool on him, as the former Wildcat looked sluggish and out of rhythm.
There aren't too many opportunities for errors in a loaded Western Conference, and a poor stretch could cost Denver of catching a good seed once the playoff hunt starts. With the roster looking thinner than ever after numerous rotational players left over the years, it is expected that the likes of Murray, Michael Porter, Jr., and Aaron Gordon will step up and help the Serbian keep the Nuggets in the title race.
If Jamal continues to focus on off-court activities instead of bringing back the fire that made him such an electric player, Denver will be in trouble, and Murray will hear even more criticism from Nuggets fans.
