The NBA Draft Lottery took place in Chicago earlier this week, and the Dallas Mavericks needed a miracle to get the first overall pick. The Mavericks had just a 1.8% chance of getting it, but they somehow ended up being the last team standing. The Mavericks have the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and it’s sounding like they have no intentions of trading the pick away. Duke star Cooper Flagg is likely going to play in Dallas.

Cooper Flagg is a lock to be the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft as he is one of the best prospects that the sport has ever seen. The Mavericks could try to trade the #1 pick away to land someone with NBA experience, but it doesn’t sound like they want to go that route. Dallas wants Flagg.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd recently made an appearane on the Dan Patrick Show, and the NBA Draft Lottery was obviously a major talking point. He was asked if he was planning to keep the #1 pick and draft Flagg:

“Yes,” Jason Kidd said. “I’m just the coach, yes I would say we’re all concentrating on number one. The draft is deep, but as the name you just brought up, I think we’re all focused on.”

The Mavericks made the shocking decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers this past season, and the fan base couldn’t believe it. Doncic is one of the best players in the league, and he helped the team make a run to the NBA Finals last season. It was truly one of the most shocking trades that the NBA has ever seen.

Now, the Mavericks might get bailed out by the NBA Draft Lottery. All signs point to Cooper Flagg being the next superstar in the NBA, and it sounds like Dallas plans on keeping the pick and drafting him. Everything might work out just fine for the Mavericks.
